The 7 minute workout is a fitness program, originally developed and published by Johnson & Johnson. It went viral quickly and a flood of popular third party apps hit the app stores. JNJ decided to go in on the opportunity and enter the Health and Fitness app market. The approach was to invest in design to differentiate, compete and create an own-able 7 Minute brand experience. Thats where we focused our partnership and in just a few short months, we designed, prototyped, tested, and iterated to a successful initial release. That release was featured in category by Apple as best in class, with an experience that engaged millions of people in healthy routines in just it's first year.
As we designed the signature interactions with audio, video and UI to facilitate the sessions, the brand identity emerged organically in the process of creating the product experience.
Creating healthy routines and replacing existing habits are difficult to start and not likely to stick. The higher the effort, the more people have to love it to do it. The high-level rule we follow is that changing behavior relies on more than just intention, it needs self-determination. Where we continue to focus our strategy and design is to empower people with meaningful choices and fun tools to enjoy the journey.
